Founded in 1880 at an elevation of 9,600, the Town of Ophir is a very small residential community located in a valley about 15-20 minutes drive south from Telluride. Ophir Pass is a popular jeep road which connects the Town of Ophir and the Town of Silverton and is closed to vehicular traffic during the winter. Waterfall Canyon and Swamp Canyon are the two major adjuncts located on the south side of the Ophir valley.
